OK. I got the clearance to chat about this stuff.
Lindy Project is a teaching organization Scott, myself, Laura G., Mike R., and Jeannie Elliot are putting together to advance the dancing community within Austin. We are pretty much gearing to have a full range of instruction ranging from raw newbie to "advanced".
Its kinda cool cause it gives us an opportunity to teach lindy and its auxiliary dances in a way that we have been wanting to teach for quite some time as well as address the needs of the more advanced dancers in the scene.
I mean we are even tentatively planning on doing things with Four on the Floor and Bill Borgida to help grow the community. Someone mentioned a monthly workshop not too long ago that would be grand and I know one of my pet projects is to find a way to ressurect Texas Swing Riot or something along those lines.
All in all i think it will be a pretty cool little deal and ought to be a nifty way to help people enjoy this dance. Its too much fun not to do something like this...ya know?
ANYWAY. Now that I have digressed...If you are interested in getting teachers for UT i am fairly certain the Lindy Project crew would be willing to help you out.

Pirate Pants: Johnny Depp.... ::blush::
Yeah, he was. He finished up his Master of Music Composition study at Juilliard, is in Germany for a month and then will be at Rice for his doctoral program in the fall...
well... I've completely put the idea on hold because of my new job, but since Nathan's coming in, I might be able to start a new push for the course. unfortunately, Chelsea didn't mention if he had a MFA in dance. A music MFA doesn't count. it's a lame requirement, I'd say, but the PED dept requires it.
once we can get a teacher set, we can start looking for TAs. if there's a possibility we can make this a night course, I hope most of you would be willing to jumpstart the program.

Actually I was curious about both.
I want to help out the UT Ballroom club as well but I don't know anything about anyone involved...even to the point where I don't know whether or not they would enjoy learning lindy. It doesn't really fit into the category, you know.
And as for getting a course, I am 100% behind that. Would professional experience substitute for a MFA in Dance? I can always build up that I started San Antonio (with help), worked at FotF, Dance Manhattan, and is an active student with some of the best Lindyhoppers on the planet.
change their posture and frame! bwahaha... I've always thought ballroom and lindyhop had similar dance concepts but opposing physical practicalities... so much so that when someone practices the former, it generally hurts the latter and vice versa...

Pirate Pants: Something nice, but not too expensive

So who is teaching this semester now that Mike R. and Emily D. are gone?
Hi again! 3 years later... seems like forever ago. The announcement about Keith brought me back to the site and the forums, and I noticed that there hasn't been any activity in many categories since 2007. Funny how time flys... in the same page as this post, the Lindy Project was officially announced, and Andrew Lee wasn't even dreaming of raising money for anything. :)
Sad to see our beloved forums go... I also miss Austin. That is all.
