My 95 Honda Accord is looking for a new owner. It's loyal and sturdy, though somewhat beaten down by time, and also has a variety of issues, which are:
1. Mileage -- this is the big one, because I don't know exactly what it is. Several years ago, the odometer broke. I didn't consider it a very pressing issue, so I didn't bother to fix it. A couple of years went by, and magically, it started working again. My theory is that during a repair some wire was crossed or something that caused it to stop working, and a later repair inadvertently fixed it. In any event, although the odometer currently reads ~130k, it probably has somewhat more. Just guessing, I'd say 180k. This fact makes me reluctant to sell it to a random person who might unscrupulously turn around and sell it to someone without revealing the actual mileage.
2. Body -- There's a dent from a fender bender (parking lot) in the rear quarter panel, and I also hit a deer driving on Bee Cave late one night, leaving some dents in the hood. I didn't bother to fix these because it was relatively late into the life of the vehicle and not worth the money. The car has no frame damage or visible rust.
3. Needed repairs -- At my last trip to Lambs, the techs reported that I needed a new oil pan and a new CV joint. I think those roughly totaled about 500$ Recently, the AC went out (probably needs freon; this was what prompted me to finally get a new one.)
4. Misc minor -- the leather seat on the driver side has frayed somewhat along the side. There's a crack in the front windshield.
Aside from these issues, the car has been incredibly reliable. It has a new battery, and some other new parts that were replaced last December, when I spent about 2000$ on various repairs. (I could probably get a complete record from Lambs.) It's not pretty, but you should be able to get another 100k out of it. I drive like your grandma, a fact easily confirmed by any ex-girlfriend.
The Kelley blue book value for a 95 accord with the same specs and 180k miles in fair condition is 2800$. Because of the body damage, I would subtract 800$ from that. Additionally, I'd subtract another 800$ for the needed repairs, for a total of 1200$ I haven't had it compression tested yet -- if there were any problems there you could probably talk me down some more.
As I said, due to the uncertain mileage, I'm reluctant to sell this to just anyone or to trade it in to a dealer where it'd probably be auctioned unscrupulously. I'd like to sell it to someone I know who seems trustworthy.
Thanks, Mike
